Barikan also usually done at Indonesia's independence day especially among Surabaya's people. Wo what differs barikan and cangkrukan? The purpose of barikan is to reflect. Remembering our past. Just like cangkruk, we can do barikan anywhere and actually, barikan can be done anytime.
Have you ever seen people (usually relatives) gather around and talk excitingly at a wedding? That thing that they're doing is what we call jagongan. So what's the difference between jagongan and the two we mentioned before? Actually jagongan is cangkruk that is done at an event (life event) of somebody. This event can be a wedding, death of a relative, of even somebody's circumsition.
Cangkrukan, barikan and jagongan are similar things. All three are popular culutures in Java. Wether conscious or unconciously, Javanese people still do these things. Basically, all three is about talking to each other and interacting with each other. So, what's the difference?
Cangkrukan is basically an activity of gathering together with friends or relatives to chat, talk, and speak with each other. Cangkruk can be done at any place, in any occasion, and in any athmosphere. The purpose of cangkruk may be so variative, starting from talking about unique stuff that happened, weird stuff, to politics and the government. Usually, people do cangkruk when they want to find ideas of just relax. Sometimes even, for some photographer, cangkruk time can also be used for light photo hunting.
